WASPA National Benchmarking Platform

WASPA has continued to host the National Benchmark Platform which continues to play a great role in performance enhancement and improvement in WSPs. Currently, the platform hosts 38 WSPs. The platform envisions improvement and performance enhancement of both the technical and financial aspects of the WSPs through continuous and peer-to-peer learning. The platform is anchored on four thematic areas namely;

  • Cost Recovery
  • Services Level
  • Non-Revenue Water

Non-Revenue Water Management

This thematic area centers on efforts to minimize water losses, encompassing both real and apparent losses. These efforts entail advancements in metering technologies, billing and collection systems, the implementation of District Metering Areas (DMAs), proactive leak detection measures, and community This thematic area centers on efforts to minimize water losses, encompassing both real and apparent losses. Services Level

Within this thematic area, Water and Sanitation Providers (WSPs) engage in dialogues concerning the quality of services they deliver. This encompasses internal communications among staff, as well as interactions with customers. Additionally, discussions revolve around sourcing funds to facilitate the expansion of access to water and sanitation services, enhancing customer care practices, and effectively managing service standards, among other pertinent topics.

Pro Poor

Water and Sanitation Providers (WSPs) place particular emphasis on enhancing services in areas that are currently without or lacking adequate access. This involves mapping out low-income areas, leading initiatives to instigate behavior change through engaging consumers and prioritizing sustainability by adopting established business models. This thematic area underscores strategies aimed at expanding access to water and sanitation services in low-income communities, which may involve establishing specialized units and formulating policies tailored to address the needs of these underserved populations

Cost Recovery

This theme pertains to the capacity of Water and Sanitation Providers (WSPs) to recuperate operational and maintenance costs while enhancing efficiency levels. It encompasses various measures such as minimizing energy expenses and embracing renewable technologies, implementing electronic billing systems, enhancing debt collection processes and policies, and establishing tariffs that ensure cost recovery, among other initiatives.
