What first drew you to the water and sanitation sector, and what has kept you committed to it over the years?
I was intrigued by the opportunity to bring new technology (NBIoT) into the water sector.
The water sector is still largely male dominated. What challenges did you face rising to leadership, and how did you navigate them?
The solution we offer is one of its kind, the challenge is that people try to ‘short-circuit’ the process by demanding abnormal discounts, unnecessarily delaying our payments for services. People assume that what we are doing is a hobby not a business.
What leadership decision or initiative are you most proud of in your current role?
The decision to be able to selectively decide who to provide our services to and doing what’s in the best interest of our business without compromising on the services we offer to new and existing customers.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Give to Gain.” What have you given to the water sector through your leadership, and what do you believe the sector gains from having more women in leadership?
I have given opportunities to the youth, most of them being women. The GenZ generation are the future of this nation and by having 90% of them in our team, we can execute projects 1000times faster than the staff who come with 25plus years of experience. The youth understand what needs to be done, once the expectation is set from the start. They know how to manage their time, they are digital, they work fast and deliver on their assignments. Giving them an opportunity to lead and drive operations is the best decision we have made as a company.
What advice would you give to young women considering a career in the water and sanitation sector
Water & Sanitation is an exciting sector and integrating technology only makes it more interesting!
